Two Magic: The Gathering Players Tour tournaments just happened this past weekend, and the top players competed in Pioneer Constructed and Theros Beyond Death booster draft to get their share of the $350,000 prize pool across both events.
Japanese MTG pro Kenta Harane won Players Tour Nagoya on Sunday evening with his Bant Spirits (Pioneer) deck, defeating Magic Pro League member Ken Yukuhiro, who used a unique Sram Auras deck in the finals (2-1).
Harane had to defeat some of the best players through the Top 8 bracket loaded with five Blue/Black Inverter of Truth decks to win Players Tour Nagoya. The Inverter of Truth/Thassa's Oracle combo dominated the Pioneer meta in the Players Tour tournaments, and it was the most popular archetype at Players Tour Nagoya, where it made up 19% of the meta.
Harane was joined by Magic Pro League members Ken Yukuhiro, Shota Yasooka, and Lee Shi Tian, and two-time Magic Online Championship Series champion Dmitriy Bukatov, as well as Yuta Takahashi, Akira Asahara, and Shintaro Ishimura.
During an interview with Wizards of the Coast, Harane talked about his finals opponent Ken Yukuhiro: "Ken's skill is very high as a player. As a deckbuilder, he's really necessary in Team Musashi," he said. "That said, I'd never playtested against Ken's deck! I didn't know what Ken was going to do, so I had to learn during the game."
