Dragon Ball: Super Broly is Coming to North American Theaters, Thanks to Funimation

Toei Animation

The hype for the upcoming Dragon Ball Super movie went up when Toei Animation announced its title: Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Of course, fans are excited that the popular villain from the non-canon Dragon Ball Z movies will finally be canonized in the film. While we already know that it will arrive in Japanese theaters this December, many have been asking if it will get a North American release, and now, it looks like we have a clear answer thanks to Funimation.

The company has announced that they have acquired the license to distribute Dragon Ball Super: Broly in the U.S. and Canada. "We are excited to be partnering with Toei Animation and Twentieth Century Fox on the theatrical release of ‘Dragon Ball Super: Broly,'" Funimation CEO and President Gen Fukunaga said in a statement.

"The Dragon Ball North America Tour is really just the beginning. We have some big surprises in store for Dragon Ball fans of all ages," Fukunaga added. "With the success of the last two Dragon Ball movies and the tremendous popularity of ‘Dragon Ball Super,' we know that this theatrical event will deliver all the excitement that Dragon Ball fans have come to expect."

Funimation said that the film will be promoted during the Dragon Ball North American tour, which will be held in a total of seven cities between U.S. and Canada, and will start at San Diego Comic-Con next week. The first full trailer for the film is set to launch at SDCC.

Dragon Ball Super is available for streaming on Crunchyroll Saturdays at 7:15 p.m. CST. Toonami still airs the English dub of Dragon Ball Super on Adult Swim Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. It's also available to stream on FunimationNOW and Amazon. The upcoming Dragon Ball Super film will be released on December 14.
