Darth Vader Surprises Boy Fighting Leukemia

Grand Rapids, MI - Darth Vader may be one of the baddest sci-fi vilains ever, but he just did a kindhearted deed for a young Star Wars fan.

On Tuesday, 8-year-old Ian O'Hara, who has spent most of his life in and out of the hospital fighting B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, got a suprise visit from members of the 501st Legion dressed as Star Wars characters, including Darth Vader, Grand Officer Tarkin, and a Stormtrooper. Ian checked out some of their gear and had a few lightsaber fights.

Ian has met the Star Wars group before, but at that time, he was in isolation at the hospital after a bone marrow transplant. This is the first time he was able to interact with them.

Next week, Ian is heading to Mott's Children's Hospital at the University of Michigan for a new kind of treatment, involving T-cell therapy.

Meeting Darth Vader himself is a dream come true for any Star Wars fan, and thanks to the 501st Legion for fulfilling this boy's dream.
