Apex Legends Draws 2.5 Million Players in Its First Day

Respawn Entertainment/EA

Respawn Entertainment and EA's Apex Legends has only been out for a couple of days, and it looks like the game is already off to a strong start. During a conference call on Tuesday, EA shared some of the results of the new game's launch with investors, and it sounds like the new free-to-play battle royale game is a success.

In the call (transcript via Yahoo Finance), CEO Andrew Wilson said that Apex Legend's launch proved to be the publisher's biggest reveal in terms of peak and concurrent viewers on Twitch. The game quickly hit the top spot and the game drew over 1 million players in just 8 hours after its launch but it looks like the numbers have nearly tripled after 24 hours:

"[I]n the first 24 hours, we've had over 2.5 million unique users, training fast toward 3 million unique users, and nearly 600,000 peak and current users in the middle of a Tuesday, so it's very early, but the response to the game has been very, very strong."

Apex Legends is set in the same universe as the Titanfall series, and Respawn's Vince Zampella teased more Titanfall coming this year. Respawn is also working on Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, which is expected to release later this year.

Apex Legends is now available for free on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
