Magic: The Gathering Designer Clarifies If Legends in Commander Legends Packs Will Replace The Rare

Commander Legends is one of the most innovative Magic: The Gathering sets Wizards of the Coast released in recent years. It's the first-ever Commander set designed to be drafted, and even the Booster Draft rules are different compared to a typical Booster Draft or Commander game. Wizards of the Coast also previously announced that the Commander Legends booster packs will also have unique legend slots, but some fans are confused if that will replace the rare in the pack, but today, we get an answer.

Senior Magic Designer Gavin Verhey took it on Twitter to clarify that the two guaranteed legends do not replace the rare in each Commander Legends booster pack. You can open a normal rare plus two rare legends, and says that's even before factoring in the foil in each pack.

So a player can get three rare cards in one Commander Legends pack! This will give players more reasons to be excited about cracking packs up. Of course, not all rares in the set will have high power level, but this should help make the Booster Draft experience fun for this set as players have a higher chance to get multiple rares than a typical Booster Draft.

Be sure to check out the dates and outlets of the official Commander Legends previews.

Commander Legends product and events will be available on Magic Online on Thursday, November 19, 2020.
