J.J. Abrams is Producing a World War II Supernatural Thriller


J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot company are producing a World War II supernatural thrilled called Overlord. The film backed by Paramount Pictures will be directed by Julius Avery (Son of a Gun) from a script penned by Billy Ray (Captain Philips) and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant).

The film follows "two paratroopers who are caught behind enemy lines after their plane crashes on a mission to destroy a German Radio Tower in a small town outside of Normandy during the D-Day invasion. After reaching their target, the two paratroopers come to realize that besides fighting off Nazi soldiers, they also must combat against supernatural forces that are a result of a secret Nazi experiment."

Variety reports that the studio is already searching for actors to play the roles of soldiers. Paramount has been holding the project since 2007, so tt's good to see that the project is finally moving forward with a great team to make this happen.

Avery's breakout film was Son of a Gun. It was so good that Ridley Scott took noticed of it, and tapped him to direct the drug trafficker film The King of L.A.
