Star Wars: Episode IX won't be released until December 2019 but the film's co-writer/director J.J. Abrams "cant' wait" for fans to see what they're bringing to the finale of the Skywalker saga.

When The Independent asked Abrams if he's excited to return as a director after helming 2015's The Force Awakens, he said, "Very much."

"I'm actually going to be leaving this room and going right there. I can't wait for you to see what we're doing," Abrams said.

Back in September, Abrams replaced the ousted Colin Trevorrow but not everyone was happy with the decision. In that same month, a group of fans started a petition to fire Abrams as well. Though that probably won't happen, I'm sure Abrams will do a much better job than what Rian Johnson did for The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: Episode IX (not its official title) will be released on December 20, 2019.
