Independence 2 - First Synopsis Released

The official synopsis for Independence Day 2 has been revealed online.

After "Independence Day" redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens' advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

There's nothing really suprising in this synopsis. Of course, it will involve aliens, but how will this be different from the first film? We'll have to wait for the trailers to pop out.

The synopsis first appeared on Rotten Tomatoes last month, but readers weren't sure if it was official or not. And since it showed up in a licensing expo magazine, we can now confirm that this synopsis is legit.

Independence Day 2 is set to release on June 24, 2016.
