Iconic Star Wars Character Returns In The Last Jedi

Warning: Spoilers For Star Wars: The Last Jedi

After many fans criticized The Force Awakens for being too much like A New Hope, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was the breath of fresh air fans were hoping for. Focusing on new characters and barely retreading anything from previous films, it's easy to see why the critics praised The Last Jedi heavily. Despite mostly focusing on new things, there were a couple of sequences that long-time fans of the franchise will appreciate, including a big return for a Star Wars icon.

That Star Wars icon is Yoda.

When Luke Skywalker decides to burn down some of the Jedi's sacred texts, Yoda returns in spirit form, just like Obi-Wan did in Episode VI. Luke realizes this and tells his former master that it's time to burn down the old ways of the Jedi but hesitates at the last minute. In a neat twist, Yoda actually burns down the tree himself with a massive thunderbolt that would make Thor jealous.

Yoda then gives Luke some parting words about being a master, before disappearing again. It was a nice return, though one that's been spoiled multiple times for those paying attention. One interviewer asked John Boyega about the legendary character's return, surprising the actor. Digital Sputnik also spoiled the character's appearance in a random trailer post and quickly deleted any mention of the character.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in theaters now.
