Ian McDiarmid Rumored To Return As Emperor Palpatine In Star Wars Rebels Final Season

Though it's highly unlikely that Ian McDiarmid's Emperor Palpatine would be making any appearance in Star Wars: The Last Jedi given that the sequel trilogy's moved on from the Empire to the First Order, it seems like there have been rumors that McDiarmid will be making a comeback in the Star Wars franchise.

According to a report by SWNN (via Express), word has it that McDiarmid may have recorded a few lines as Emperor Palpatine in the fourth and final season of the popular Disney Star Wars animated series, Star Wars Rebels. Apparently a source told the publication that the Tony award-winning Scottish performer and director had recorded some lines for the series a few days after Warwick Davis recorded his dialogue six months ago in London.

While fans might find it a bit strange that McDiarmid would be playing Palpatine after Sam Witwer did the Emperor's voice back in season two of Rebels, it's likely that the Scottish actor could be voicing a younger Palpatine in a flashback sequences. Remember how James Arnold voiced a younger Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Clone Wars while Stephen Stanton did the work for the older version of the Jedi? Dave Filoni could be planning the same thing for Palpatine in Rebels too.

If true, McDiarmid's return would be one of the many things to look forward to in the final season of Lucasfilm and Disney's exciting Star Wars animated series.

Star Wars Rebels returns to DisneyXD with its fourth season on September 23, 2017.
