How To Train Your Dragon Composer Hired To Score Han Solo

Though John Williams and a Star Wars movie always go hand-in-hand, you can't expect Williams to score every film that's coming out. Michael Giacchino provided the score for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and another composer has just been hired for the Young Han Solo film.

Lucasfilm has officially announced that composer John Powell will be working on the score for the film. Powell has actually had a pretty seasoned career, and he's worked on projects like How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda, and The Bourne Identity.

Powell will be the third composer to ever work on a Star Wars film, but I expect the list to grow as Lucasfilm decides to pump out more of their Star Wars movies.

I'm actually pretty excited to see what Powell brings to the table. To be quite honest, the only musical cue I really liked in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was March of the Resistance. I think I found myself enjoying Giacchino's score for Rogue One a lot more. He did a really good job of incorporating John Williams' original music, and he made his new work blend seamlessly with classic Star Wars tunes.

Just for fun, check out Powell conducting the score for HTTYD live:

Han Solo is still filming with Ron Howard onboard as director. The movie stars Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, and Thandie Newton.

Han Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out May 25, 2018.
