How The MCU Will Be “Distinctively Different” After Infinity War

Earlier this year, Disney pretty much confirmed an infiniteStar Wars as well as Marvel movie franchise. It begs the question how the studio and movie creators plan to keep things fresh enough to pique the interest of viewers. It sounds difficult, even impossible, but it turns out Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has the answer and it looks quite interesting.

In a recent interview with EW, Feige explained how the storyline could look totally different in Marvel Phase 4, the events following the two-part Infinity War films and the Inhumans movie.

Feige said:

I think you look at comics as a guide. Although certain titles may get relaunched or rebooted, the narrative exists on a never-ending continuum.
I think there will be a finality to moments of Phase Three, as well as new beginnings that will mark a different, a very different, a distinctively different chapter in what will someday be a complete first saga made up of three phases.

This means that the superheroes we're seeing now on the big screen have high chances of being less involved in Phase Four.

Captain America: Civil War marks the 13th Marvel film to date, therefore it cannot be avoided that the franchise would need a fresh take on things, according to Joe and Anthony Russo. This was the reason why there is no actual villain in the film, just good guys against the other good guys.

Joe Russo explained:

Things always get deconstructed, right? You build things up and people enjoy the experiences you've built up. But then you kind of reach an apex or you reach a climax, a moment where you go, ‘This structure is really going to start to be repetitious if we do this again, so what do we do now?'
So now, you deconstruct it. We're in the deconstruction phase with Civil War and leading intoInfinity War, which are the culmination films.

One thing is certain. No matter how "infinite" Disney intends Marvel films to be, the studios have got it all planned out. It's definitely no accident that Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, and Thor: Ragnarok feature heroes unseen in Civil War.

Feige said it himself:

That's somewhat intentional to go and explore the other aspects [of the universe].

While Feige didn't exactly mean a totally different twist for the Phase 4, at the very least, we'll probably get to see new characters on the spotlight in the next phase, and maybe new actors to play old characters.

Captain America:Civil War hits theaters on May 6.
