How Star Wars is Partnering With Marvel For Rogue One

This December a new Star Wars movie that isn't about a character named Skywalker will arrive in theaters. Although we heard some rumors about Darth Vader's appearance, Mads Mikkelsen's character, and Stormtrooper details, Lucasfilm and Disney haven't officially revealed a lot from the upcoming film. Now it looks like we may not have to wait until December to get a glimpse of Rogue One as Lucasfilm's cousins over at Marvel Comics will publish a prequel series in October that will lead into the film.

Marvel announced the three-issue mini-series at an industry event as part of Chicago's C2E2 convention over the weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Marvel's planned run will include four total books. There will be a three-issue series that will start publishing in October, followed by a one-off book that will follow at an undisclosed later date. Marvel hasn't revealed the details about the artists and writers involved in making this mini-eries.

The Rogue One comics are just the newest addition to a series of Star Wars related titles that will become a major part of creating a "new expanded universe" over at Marvel. There was a prequel comic that preceded Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and a new series following Poe Dameron will be released next month.

Since Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will take place before the events of the original Star Wars, the comics will fill the gap between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. At this point, we still know little about the plot of Rogue One.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is set to release in theaters on Dec. 16, 2016.
