Here's Why Sabrina Went To Netflix Instead Of The CW
Originally planned for the CW, fans were a bit surprised to find out that Sabrina the Teenage Witch will be on Netflix instead. Considering how Riverdale is in The CW and doing great, it’s odd to see the first spinoff from the new Archie show in the popular streaming service. Warner Bros. Television has since revealed why it will be on Netflix and the reason makes plenty of sense.
A representative told The Hollywood Reporter that bringing the show to Netflix would give Warner Bros. 100% ownership of Sabrina. This means that they won’t have to split the costs with Netflix, which they currently do with The CW for Riverdale. While the report claims that future spinoffs could go to The CW, it looks like Sabrina will stay on Netflix for now.
Riverdale does show on Netflix as well, but usually after it has already aired on The CW. In a way, this works to the advantage of Netflix viewers who will be able to binge both shows if they are in the mood for teenage angst and mystery solving.
Sabrina is currently slated for a 2018/2019 release and will have 10 episodes for its first season.
