Here's Why Burger King Russia Wants To Ban Stephen King's IT

Burger King Russia is trying to ban Stephen King's IT from the country but not because it's scary. The fast food company believes there are perceived similarities between Pennywise and their rival company's icon, Ronald McDonald.

Burger King Russia filed a complaint with the country's Federal Anti-Monopoly Service, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The company suggests that Russian theaters should no longer screen the horror blockbuster. Burger King claims that IT doubles as advertising for McDonald's because of Pennywise's resemblance with Ronald McDonald.

The service told THR that they'll evaluate whether the film includes advertising or product placement, and says that it "can't be concerned with the content of the film because the writer and director have their own creative understanding of any character."

Have the Burger King executives seen the film? If Pennywise would remind many people about Ronald McDonald, then they should be scared of going to popular fast food chain and search for an alternative, but the truth is the King mascot of Burger King looks just as terrifying.

IT: Chapter 2 is set to release in theaters on September 6, 2019.
