Here's Why Benicio Del Toro’s Last Jedi Character Is Called DJ

Despite plenty of merchandise and theories, there is still little known about Star Wars: The Last Jedi. While fans can guess a few things, like Luke Skywalker training Rey and a bigger role for Snoke, some of the newer characters are still mysteries. One of the bigger mysteries for the next film is Benicio Del Toro's character, whose name is DJ.

With a name like that, it would be easy to crack a few jokes about how he will be seen in the film's dance clubs. DJ is no music jockey however, as the name could be an acronym for "Don't Join." A Twitter fan was able to get his hands on a Funko Pop of DJ, which had an alien language printed on it's cap. Making Star Wars translated the language, and discovered that it meant "Don't Join."

This instantly got the attention of Star Wars fans, since "don't join" could refer to either the Rebellion or the First Order. Unfortunately, the character's motivations couldn't be decrypted from the Funko Pop. It adds a layer of mystery, something The Last Jedi will likely answer.

How integral is DJ to the plot of Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Only the cast and crew know, at least until December 15, when the film comes out. Del Toro is one of the best actors in Hollywood today, so it will be interesting to see how he's integrated in the film's universe.
