Hellboy Reboot Gets Rid of Rise of The Blood Queen Subtitle

It looks like Neil Marshall's Hellboy reboot starring Stranger Things' star David Harbor and Ian McShane from American Gods has dropped its Rise of the Blood Queen subtitle.

IGN recently updated its story on the casting of McShane in the Hellboy reboot, noting that the project is no longer using the working title Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen and instead going by the simple title Hellboy.

The name change is surprising news, since the project has been going under the title for quite some time now. This name change also poses a number of questions for fans – will the film still follow Hellboy's story arc, The Wild Hunt, the one where the Queen of Blood pops up in the ninth collected edition of Mike Mignola's comicbook series.

If it does follow The Wild Hunt, to what extent will the film be using the Blood Queen?

For those who aren't that familiar with Nimue, the Queen of Blood was one of Britain's greatest witches. She was loved by Merlin who told her all his secrets. However after going mad, the Queen of Blood used this knowledge to imprison Merlin in a grave right before getting finished off by her own coven. Centuries later, Nimue is revived after her box of remains is being filled with the blood of all the citizens of a nearby village, and the Queen of Blood then arose.

The Wild Hunt is a very interesting and intricate story, and it would be a quite a shame if it wasn't used.

Hellboy is set to hit theaters sometime in 2018.
