There was a huge ruckus when Lucasfilm announced that the studio decided to part ways with former Han Solo directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller over "creative differences" last month.
Now, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Han Solo star Woody Harrelson talks about how he first learned about the separation and how Lucasfilm got him to accept the role of Han Solo's mentor in the Star Wars spinoff film.
Apparently the actor had been given word about how Lucasfilm decided to fire Lord and Miller by Star Wars producer Allison Shearmur and he thinks that their replacement, Ron Howard is a pretty "wonderful guy."
Harrelson had worked with the award-winning filmmaker on the 1999 movie Edtv, and so they've had pretty much experience working together in production. In the interview with the publication, Harrelson revealed that Howard had come down to the Han Solo production to film the spin-off for one day before the team was forced to take break.
"We did shoot one day with him," the actor explained. "we had to shoot because Thandie [Newton] had to leave."
While fans are eager to learn more about Howard and his time on the set of Han Solo, Harrelson can't give anything more.
"Definitely [Star Wars] has more secrecy than anything ever. You get an e-reader; you don't get a script. They give it to you, and you give it back after you read it. But I was like, ‘I've got to be with my family, I got to go home.' I'd been home in Maui one week since November. But I met with [Lord and Miller] one night, and we hung out and we went over to [publicist and Harrelson friend] Matthew Freud's and played ping-pong and just had a great time." the Han Solo star said. "They were really good guys. I've been enjoying it [since then], especially because we just went to [shoot in the Dolomites] in Italy. Thandie Newton said, ‘It's like being at camp 'cause you got everybody together,' and we had a couple of epic parties."
Such a shame fans can't be physically part of the exclusive Star Wars party, but with Lucasfilm heading to this year's D23 with Star Wars: The Last Jedi's BTS reel, we hope that the studio might talk more about Han Solo.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres on December 15, 2017 while Han Solo hits cinemas May 25, 2018.
