Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma Gets More Action-Driven Role In The Last Jedi

A lot of Star Wars fans absolutely hated how The Force Awakens built up Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma only to throw away the chrome trooper without a single action sequence in the first sequel trilogy installment.

Though everyone had expected Phasma to get a few cool moves in The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams thought it would be funnier to dump the First Order captain in the trash compactor without a single action scene in an attempt at an ode to a classic scene from A New Hope.

Now, Rian Johnson's bringing Phasma back in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and in an interview with Entertainment Weekly we find the director promising that the chrome trooper's finally going to get some action in TheLast Jedi.

"Gwendoline Christie is one of my favorite people, and you get to see her in action which I think is going to be really fun. That character is just so damn cool looking. Like, okay, let's see what we can do with her. Let's put her in action and see what happens."

Christie plays a female knight in Game of Thrones and her fight scenes can be very exciting. The Force Awakens really made a missed opportunity – Phasma could have been a good villain if she was just given a chance to show off her skills as a chrometrooper and a captain. It's good to see that Johnson's trying to avoid the same mistake in The Last Jedi.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres December 15, 2017.
