Guy Ritchie’s Live-Action Aladdin Will Feature Two New Songs

Guy Ritchie's Aladdin movie has already wrapped, but we still haven't seen anything official from the set, not even a single prop or character in costume. While we wait for Disney to officially reveal the movie, we have news that the film will actually feature two new songs.

Talking to Variety, songwriters Benj Pasek and Justin Paul revealed that they had worked with Alan Menken to write lyrics for two songs exclusive to the live-action version of Aladdin. Pasek said:

We're really thrilled that we got to collaborate with one of our heroes Alan Menken. We collaborated with him and wrote the lyrics for two new songs for Aladdin that's coming out next year. … We're really excited for that, and really thrilled to be a part of the Disney family.

It seems that new songs will be a staple when it comes to these live-action Disney remakes. Beauty and the Beast had a new song for Beast called Evermore, and we also got confirmation that Jon Favreau's adaptation of The Lion King will also have a new song written by Elton John and Beyonce.

Though Guy Ritchie is known for his gritty heist films, I wonder what it is about Aladdin that drew him to the project. I do want to see how Ritchie handles a musical number, but I would have rather seen him direct the Suicide Squad sequel or something. Maybe even a follow-up to Man from UNCLE.

Guy Ritchie's Aladdin is set to come out May 24, 2019.
