Guy Ritchie Asked Not To ‘Whitewash’ By Casting Tom Hardy As Aladdin’s Jafar

Last weekend, word came out that Aladdin live-action director Guy Ritchie was planning to cast Dark Knight Rises and Mad Max: Fury Road action star Tom Hardy as the classic animated movie's Jafar.

Now, the internet is flooding with fans urging the Man From U.N.C.L.E. director against "whitewashing," hoping that the rumors weren't true. Taking to Twitter, fans are asking Ritchie to help keep the authenticity of the film by casting an Asian actor instead of Hardy, saying that the English actor is a terrible choice for Jafar.

Check out the different tweets down here:

With fans claiming that though they do love Tom Hardy, having him play Jafar is one of the worst choices and others hilariously saying that the British actor is way too "short" to play the villain, the internet has rallied together to suggest Asian actors better suited for the part instead.

While the casting has not yet been confirmed by Disney or by Ritchie, the studios must already know that whitewashing a role meant for a person of color definitely doesn't do any good for any film. Remember what happened to Scarlett Johansson's Ghost in the Shell?

There's no release date for Aladdin just yet, but we'll keep everyone updated as soon as we get word.
