Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Cut a Scene With Ego and Mantis' Mother

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was praised for developing the cast more and having a better villain than most MCU films. There were two characters mostly used for comedy purposes; Drax and Mantis. While most fans love how Drax became the funniest member of the group, most are indifferent about Mantis.

In Vol. 2, we found out that Ego raised Mantis to serve him and help him sleep, among other things. However, a recent post has revealed that there was going to be a scene with Ego and the mother of Mantis, implying that she might be the half-sister of Star-Lord.

Actress Jennifer Sharp revealed on Instagram that she was originally in a scene as Mantis' mom, who would have had some sort of interaction with Kurt Russell's Ego. Sharp has since edited her post to remove references regarding that detail but fans on Reddit have saved a screenshot of the unedited version.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 had a lot of story to tell, so any familial connection with Mantis and Star-Lord could have been overkill. Still, it would have been nice to see Mantis get some decent development in the film instead of being just a joke.

Mantis disappeared with most of the Guardians at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. She might come back in Avengers 4, which is slated for a May 3, 2019 release.
