Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2’s Dave Bautista Explains Why Drax Has Changed

It's been a while since Marvel fans have seen their favorite band of space misfits from James Gunn's 2014 Guardians of the Galaxy and a lot of things have changed ever since the cosmic superheroes were introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Not only has Gunn added a few more heroes to the team (though some of them might be reluctant additions) in the film's sequel, but he's also added a few changes to the personalities and characteristics of Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) friends. Zoe Saldana's Gamora isn't as cold as she used to be and Dave Bautista's Drax seems to be a bit more lighthearted in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 – something which may come as a surprise to fans who know Drax as a warrior trying to avenge is family.

Speaking in an interview with Screen Rant, Bautista explains why Drax has changed and how exactly the Guardians have affected him. When asked why the dense warrior no longer has this simmering anger in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Bautista responds:

"I think he feels like he has a family again. I think he still mourns over the family he lost, but I think he really feels much more content. I think he still definitely has the underlying anger. It'll always be with him. But I think he's just found his new family and is very content. And he is kinda happy."

Sure Josh Brolin's Thanos is still around, but with Lee Pace's Ronan gone, it's understandable how Drax would want to move on. Sure the Guardians aren't the same as having a wife and daughter, but they consider themselves a family all the same.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premieres this Friday on May 5, 2017.
