Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Almost Included This Deadpool Reference

Fox and Marvel showed us their willingness to work together with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Deadpool. Fox gave permission to use Ego the Living Planet in Vol. 2, and Marvel gave Fox the rights to change the powers of Megasonic Teenage Warhead. While both films don't share the same movie universe, it turns out that the new Guardians of the Galaxy film almost made a reference to Deadpool.

The reference would have been included during the Stan Lee cameo, when he was telling the other Watchers what he's done. The final version ended up referencing Stan Lee's cameo in Civil War, with Lee saying that he was a FedEx delivery guy. James Gunn admitted that this was a mistake because of the continuity error.

During a recent Facebook Q&A, James Gunn revealed that Lee's cameo in Deadpool was one of the possible references he considered including. During filming, Gunn told various things for Stan Lee to say he's done while talking with the Watchers, and one of them was Lee's Deadpool cameo as a strip club DJ. Obviously, the shot was not used, but it would have been great to see how that piece of dialogue would have connected both universes. It's unknown why that reference was cut but I wouldn't be surprised if Marvel Studios restricted Gunn from making any references to the Fox films. What do you think?
