Guardians Trailer Shows What It’s Like to Fight as Superheroes in Russia

Who says only Marvel and DC will be able to churn out some hero films?

In 2017, Guardians, a Russian movie about superheroes, will be out in theaters. And to market the movie, a new official trailer has been released.

"I have two weeks to search through all of the former Soviet Union for the superhumans that can stop a supervillain?"

Apparently, Guardians is the name of the lead female Latina's mission, which is to find (a.k.a. recruit, build a team of...) superheroes who can fight against one super villain. That should be the gist of the trailer, but there is one rather confusing line, which seems to hint that there's something deeper to the story than fighting off the bad guy.

Some of the heroes are talking to each other, and it seems that one motivation for the heroes to join forces is to know "who did it to them." So are we looking at superhumans who were experimented on? So are we now seeing something along the lines of Suicide Squad in Indian Hill vibe?

Just in case you're interested, some of the heroes that were revealed include Ler, who can manipulate rocks and wield them as weapons—think Toph's mad Earth-bending skills. There's Khan, the man who wields a moon-shaped blade and looks a lot like The Winter Soldier, if I do say so myself. Arsus is a Beatman, with the head of a bear, and a reminds me a little of Hugh Jackman's werewolf transformation in Van Helsing.

The supervillain cannot be stopped by the military and ordinary machines. So of course, this is the time when you flash the signal for superheroes. I'm currently unclear as to who the villain and who the actual good guys here are. For the latter part of the trailer, everyone's just wrecking buildings, and since we don't get a close-up of The Big Bad, I'll leave it to your imagination.

The trailer gives a similar feel to the other superhero movies we've seen this far in the game.

But I'm wondering if the Russian setting is meant to draw a deep historical-angle for the story, especially since every superhero is supposed to represent the different nationalities in the Soviet Union?

Guardians will be released in Russia in 2017. Even though the story hasn't been shown yet, there will definitely already be a sequel.
