'Gotham' Explains Why Poison Ivy was Aged Up

The Gotham TV show aged up Poison Ivy so she could be sexual and more manipulative, The Hollywood Reporter reveals. In an interview about the show, producer Ken Woodruff said the change was made because "The character Ivy in the comics, one of her greatest powers is the power of seduction."

He explained, "We want to explore that classic, canonical power of Ivy. And we didn't just make her older with that attack. When she's changed and transformed, there's a real character change as well. She'll still have some of the same traits, but she'll be much darker, more manipulative than the Ivy we've seen so far. There's a more evil quality to her as well. It's more than just physical".

Woodruff revealed more about the upcoming season, confirming that Valerie Vale would serve as Jim Gordon's new love interest. "Yeah, they're two really attractive, capable people who are going to be thrust into each other's lives. You'll see that really pick up in the second episode. There's a certain engine and chemistry there, a lot of sparks."

He also talked a bit about Bruce Wayne's new doppelganger, who will influence him to revel in his riches a bit. "? He forces Bruce to be happier, be more grateful that he's a rich kid, take advantage of it." He also said of the doppelganger that neither he or Original Flavor Bruce "know why he was created, but there is an inherent danger in just his existence, even if the character himself isn't scary or dangerous on the surface. He's a threat to Bruce."

Gotham airs Mondays at 8 PM on Fox's channel.

I'm still a little iffy on the new Ivy myself. I mean, it's nice that Gotham recognized a teenager wouldn't work well as a seductress, but isn't Ivy still a teenager mentally? Even if she's "transformed", I'm not seeing much evidence this transformation means she's lived out the years required for adulthood. If the character is still a kid on the inside, her being the resident sexpot is still creepy. But what do you think? Are you looking forward to the upcoming season of Gotham?
