Gotham Confirms Mad Hatter’s Sister Actress, Teases More Joker Proto-vision Details

Gotham fans will see a new villain in the form of The Mad Hatter. But it seems like he's not coming alone as far as family ties go.

Variety reported that his sister, Alice Tetch, will also be part of the show. She will be portrayed by Naian Gonzalez Norvind, who will be a recurring guest in Gotham season 3.

If you can't wait to see her in the show, tune in to the third episode, since that's when she will be making her debut. Interestingly, Alice may not necessarily be a villainous role.

Her story will revolve around the power that she possesses. The conflict is in the way that she and her brother perceive the ability. For her, it's a curse. For Jervis Tetch, it's a gift. Whether or not they come to an agreement somewhere down the line or it becomes Alice's journey of freedom throughout the season remains to be seen.

Also coming in hot for the third season is the myth of the Joker, which had eerily hung over audiences towards the last few moments of the second season.

Fans know that Gotham ended on a foreboding note. There's the death of Jerome, the character who had been the showrunner's proto-vision of Joker. From the look of things, he is already supposed to be dead after he was killed by Theo Galavan. But his laughter had pervaded through the entirety of Gotham, and even showed signs of inspiration in the darkness.

It seems that this laugh is really the highlight of the end of season 2. Speaking to TV Guide, executive producer Ken Woodruff stated that the laugh heard resounding in the night was really Jerome.

"[The laugh] was really to keep [the Joker] alive, to keep Jerome and that threat of the Joker alive. We wanted to make sure fans don't feel that we're complete done with [the mythology of the Joker] because we are 100 percent, absolutely not."

This confirms two things. One, it may really be Jerome who comes back as the Joker. And two, that his death isn't a permanent one to serve as in memoriam for whoever will be the actual Joker.

However, Woodruff was quick to point out that this won't be happening at the get-go of the upcoming season. He does give a big dose of spoiler, as Woodruff revealed that the myth of the Joker will be refocused come the second half of the season.

Gotham will be back for its third season on Sept. 19, 8:00 p.m. on Fox.
