God of War Netflix Series Rumor Debunked...For Now Anyway

This year's God of War on PS4 was so good that many called it an early game of the year contender. Whether it was due to the dazzling graphics, satisfying combat, or engaging narrative there was a lot to like about this game and fans are eagerly waiting for a follow-up. So when a Netflix series based on the popular game was announced, fans were hoping it was true.

Unfortunately, as many expected, it was a hoax and none other than Cory Barlog confirmed this. The game director was heavily involved with the fourth God of War game (in the main canon anyway), so his word has credibility. However, after he confirmed it was a hoax he then mentioned Netflix and seemingly teased something.

After confirming the news as false, he asked Netflix if they should "do something about that," implying that Barlog is interested in working on a God of War Netflix series. This doesn't mean that a series is officially confirmed of course but it is nice to know that Barlog has some interest in making one.

While the PS4 version is technically God of War 4 in terms of continuity, there are actually seven games in the series. All of them play differently from the PS4 version, though only the main ones add to the lore of the newest game, despite the other side stories still being fun in their own right. Those adventures can be used as episodes for Netflix or movies, so it will be interesting to see which form of media is chosen should the game series ever branch out.

God of War is available now on PS4.
