George Lucas Helped Direct a Scene in Solo: A Star Wars Story

Though George Lucas has handed over the reins of Star Wars to somebody else, that doesn't mean that his involvement isn't welcome at all. He's been visiting sets over at Lucasfilm, and as it turns out, Lucas had helped direct a scene in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy tells EW:

"He had intended to just kind of stop by and say hi, and he stayed five hours. There's even one little moment in a scene that — I can't tell you what, sorry — but in the scene on the Millennium Falcon where George said, ‘Why doesn't Han just do this.' It actually is a funny little bit that will probably get a laugh. And Ron happened to be by the monitor and not inside the Falcon and he goes, ‘Oh that's a great idea,' and ran in and said, ‘George wants us to do this.' So that was pretty cool. I think George felt pretty great about that. He could revisit these characters, and I think he felt so comfortable, obviously with Ron being there, that it was just fun for him."

It's also worth noting that Lucas isn't the only one to provide unexpected help to Solo. Harrison Ford, who everyone was assuming wasn't going anywhere near the project, actually gave advice to his successor Alden Ehrenreich, and even gave Ron Howard some notes on why Han acts the way he does.

Though the prequels were bashed for their terrible dialogue, it's no doubt that Lucas was a visionary who had an eye for spectacle. Sure some of the CGI looks dated now, but without Lucas pushing the envelope of VFX, we wouldn't be getting the groundbreaking VFX we see in movies today.

Solo: A Star Wars Story comes out May 25.
