Game of Thrones Season 7 is coming to an end this Sunday, so that means the beginning of the end for HBO's hit fantasy series is almost here, but when will Season 8 actually begin? How many episodes will the final season have? Check out the details below.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister in the show, has confirmed that the final season will start filming this October.

"I don't know what's going to happen next season," Nikolaj gold Collider. "We go back in October, so maybe in the next few weeks, we'll get the scripts and I'll find out. I'm very curious."

Season 8 will only have 6 episodes, but HBO president Casey Bloys recently hinted that each episode could be feature-length.

"I imagine they'll be longer but … I'm not sure [how long]," Bloys said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Wednesday.

"We haven't had that discussion yet because I don't know how long the episodes are going to be. Two hours per episode seems like it would be excessive, but it's a great show, so who knows?"

With the final season's extended running times combined with the scope and scale of Season 8, the cast are likely to spend as much time shooting as they would for a regular 10-episode season.

"It's a big season, so they're trying to get a sense of how long they're going to take to film this," Bloys said.

It's likely that Season 8 will premiere no earlier than August 2018, but Bloys hinted in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly that it might be delayed until 2019.

"They have to write the episodes and figure out the production schedule," Bloys explained. We'll have a better sense of that once they get further into the writing."

Bloys already confirmed that all six scripts for Season 8 have been completed.

Game of Thrones Season 7 finale will air on HBO this Sunday at 9 p.m. EST.
