Game of Thrones: Gilly's Nighttime Reading Just Revealed A Bombshell That Could Change Everything For Jon Snow

Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 5 didn't feature epic battles or major action sequences but it dropped a lot of hints about the show's future eevnts. While many fans have been talking about what Littlefinger's hidden note says in Sunday's episode and the tiny clue that may have revealed a character's tragic fate in the next episode's preview, the biggest clue may have been silently revealed during Gilly's nighttime reading with Sam.

In the scene, Gilly reveals a bombshell that could potentially change everything for Jon Snow, Daenerys, and the entirety of the Seven Kingdoms.

While looking through the records of the former High Septon Maynard, Gilly asks Sam what the word "annulment" meant.

"It's when a man sets aside his lawful wife," Sam explained.

"Maynard says here that he issued an annulment for a Prince 'Raggar' and remarried him to someone else at the same time in a secret ceremony in Dorne," Gilly said.

This is huge if 'Raggar" is actually Rhaegar Targaryen. It was already revealed taht "R+L=J" – which means that Jon's true parents are Rhaegar and Lyanna Stark. What Gilly may have unearthed is that Jon Snow isn't the bastard son of Rhaegar and Lyanna but he's actually Rhaegar's legitimate son.

Which could mean that Jon Snow has better claim to the Iron Throne than Daenerys does.

This reveal could potentially ruin Dany's plans to conquer Westeros, since her claim is just based in being the only living relative of Aerys II, the last Targaryen king. This positions Jon against Cersei and Dany as a contender for the Iron Throne. If Sam takes the time to delve more into what his girlfriend just revealed, he might share the game-changing truth to Jon Snow.

But how could Sam and Gilly find out what it actually met? Instead, we see Sam, who's already pissed that he's wasting away his time copying records at the Citadel instead of researching ways to defeat the White Walkers, interrupts his girlfriend with a temper tantrum and walks out of the room.

"I'm tired of reading about the achievements of better men," whines Sam.

Sam should have listened more to Gilly, and learned something.

Game of Thrones will air on HBO this Sunday at 9 p.m. EST.
