Game of Thrones Fans Had This Awkward Reaction When Sir George Martin Died

Legendary record producer, Sir George Martin, died at the age of 90 on Tuesday and several Game of Thrones fans went on a meltdown thinking it was author George R.R. Martin who passed away.

When Beatles drummer Ringo Starr broke the news of Sir George Martin's death on Twitter, the social media platform saw an outburst of grief and messages of support for the family of the late musical icon. However, some Game of Thrones fans mistook the name of the Fifth Beatle for the author of the fantasy series. Many feared that it was the end of the long-running epic.

One fan even mentioned having a "mini heart attack" while one had a "near emotional breakdown" upon mistaking the news. Later on, the fans expressed their relief that the author is still alive to finish the sixth book.

Apparently though, as much as these fans are grieved after mistaking the passing of the author, it seems like their main concern is that George R.R. Martin still hasn't finished the highly-anticipated sixth installment in his A Song of Ice and Fire series, Winds of Fire.

The 67-year-old author has become famous for biding his time finishing his novels. He's even caught procrastinating in a video.

This isn't the first time that young Twitterers have made an awkward mistake. Last year, many congratulated Kanye West for "discovering" Sir Paul McCartney after the two collaborated on the song Only One.

Sir George Martin worked with The Beatles when he headed the Parlophone record label. He was famous for helping the band on their way to success. According to his manager on Tuesday, his family thanked "everyone for their thoughts, prayers and messages of support" following news of his death.

Rest in peace Sir Martin.
