Game of Thrones Director Responds to Lady Stoneheart Rumors

The appearance of Lady Stoneheart in Game of Thrones Season 6 has been highly rumored since Catelyn Stark was killed off a few seasons ago, so it was definitely disappointing for fans when the character's return, albeit zombiefied, hasn't appeared up to now.

Then again, rumors started popping up on the internet since last year, and it even was in conjunction to rumors of Jon Snow's resurrection. A report in April also hinted her appearance, and in June, there was a convincing theory that explained her possible appearance in the current season. Add to that hints from Lem Lemoncloak actor Jóhannes Haukur recently on Twitter, it certainly seems like Catelyn could definitely make her return.

However, a Game of Thrones director Mark Mylod, who directed the last two episodes in Season 6, just shot down those rumors of Lady Stoneheart in an interview with IGN.

He said:

I'm not in the writers' room, and I can honestly say, hand over heart, that I have not had one discussion about Lady Stoneheart. I've genuinely had no discussions about Lady Stoneheart, so I genuinely couldn't comment about whether that might or might not be in their minds for the future.

It might be highly unlikely that fans' hopes of actress' Michelle Fairley's re-appearance will happen. Mylod did reiterate that he heard no discussions of Lady Stoneheart, but we're still holding on to his "genuinely couldn't comment" comment.

While Fairley stated in an interview a year ago how it's unlikely she'll be coming back, Jon Snow actor Kit Harrington admitted last month how he had to lie to people, even to the rest of the show's cast and crew, just to keep Jon Snow's resurrection a secret. Fairley could be lying.

Also, in the latest episode of the current season titled No One, I specifically remember the scene between Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Edmure Tully (Tobias Menzies) at Riverrun at Riverrun, where Edmure is tied down and held captive by Jaime. In Jaime's weird way of trying to convince Edmure to throw down his men's arms, Jaime brings up how he admires Catelyn Stark "far more than her husband and her son."

Jaime goes on to say:

...the love she had for her children, I was a little awed by it. It reminded me of my sister.
...She [Catelyn] loved her children. I suppose all mothers do, but Catelyn, Cersei, there's a fierce you don't often see. They'd do anything to protect their babies – start a war, burn cities to ash, free their worst enemies.
Things we do for love.

Perhaps that "they'd do anything" line was already a hint that Catelyn would even go far as going back from the dead to see that her children are safe, especially now that Rickon Stark is being held captive by Ramsay Bolton, who so happens to be facing off in a war with Sansa, Catelyn's other child, as well as Jon Snow, her adopted son.

We could still see Lady Stoneheart in Episode 9 or Epiosde 10, but either way, having her appearance would be one hell of a way to end the show with a bang.
