In the latest episode of Game of Thrones,Book of the Stranger, we saw Sansa Stark finally reunite with Jon Snow, but fans were also treated with an amusing interaction between Tormund Giantsbane and Brienne of Tarth. We saw Tormund lock his eyes on her when she first arrive at Castle Black, and in a later scene, we saw Tormund gaze longingly on Brinne over a meal. The romance is clear. A fan even made a romantic montage of their interaction. But is the chemistry real or are we brewing our conclusions too quickly?
According to the episode's director, Dan Sackheim, fans are seeing exactly what was intended for the characters who never met before until that episode.
"I wasn't even sure that when I delivered the episode it was really clear," Sackheim told TVGuide.com "It was like a fun little bit, but I wasn't sure it was really clear that he had these amorous feelings for Brienne. I'm always amazed what fans pick up."
Sadly for Tormund, his amorous pursuits aren't likely to be reciprocated by Brienne.
"I think it was fairly one-sided, but that's OK," Sackheim said. "There's nothing like a challenge. Men love a challenge."
Their romance wasn't even in George R.R. Martin's books so I don't really care whether they end up together or not. It would be cool to see them fight alongside each other though.
