Game of Thrones Author Teases Darker Chapters Ahead

Just because wine and merriment overflowing in previous Game of Thrones chapters--so much so that there's an official wine line coming--you shouldn't get too comfy.

Author of original material A Song of Ice and Fire George R.R. Martin has always been notorious for killing of characters just when they finally got your undivided attention. And now, he has confirmed with MTV that he's about to take the story into a long haul of pain and darkness.

"There are a lot of dark chapters right now in the book that I'm writing. I've been telling you for 20 years that winter was coming. And winter is the time when things die, and you know, cold and ice and darkness fills the world."

From the looks of it, Martin will be following the classic structure of stories. That is, things go way, way dark before we get to see the light.

As though reiterating his point, Martin adds:

"This is not going to be the happy, feel-good book that people may be hoping for. Some of the characters end in very dark places."

Of course, this may be a lot better than frustrating fans who have been waiting alongside every release of the books. A drought of happiness may be a lot better than a drought of stories.

Game of Thrones fans who prefer to follow the book may need not worry for either. Considering that the show can stand independent from the source material, it may not go too dark, depending on the showrunners.

At the same time, we're all already looking forward to summer of 2017, when it's expected that Game of Thrones will be back on HBO.
