Gail Simone Shows Interest In Writing The Movie Origin Of Batgirl

DC and Warner Bros. are going to continue working on the Batgirl film without Joss Whedon. The Avengers and Justice League director claimed that he couldn't come up with a proper story for Barbara Gordon, so DC and Warner Bros. are going to find a new, hopefully female, director.

As the people in Warner Bros. scramble to find a new writer and director, fans do have a solution for the former; Gail Simone. In fact, the former Batgirl writer would be happy to write for the film, or at the least, the character's origin.

On Twitter, a fan asked Simone if she would write a brand new origin for Barbara Gordon if Warner Bros. contacted her. She answered with a very direct "yes," so it looks like the ball is in Warner Bros. court.

Simone has had a ton of experience with Batgirl, working on the character's first 34 issues during the New 52. The writer also wrote Barbara Gordon as Oracle during a lengthy Birds of Prey run.

Black Panther: World of Wakanda writer Roxane Gay also showed some interest in writing for the film. She was actually contacted by Warner Bros. Vice President Michele Wells, with many wondering if Gay will become the film's writer. Nothing's official yet, as of this writing.

Batgirl currently has no release date.
