Fullmetal Alchemist Live-Action Film's Casting For Alphonse Finally Revealed


The live-action adaptation for Fullmetal Alchemist is coming this December, and while fans already know that Ryosuke Yamada is playing Edward Elric, the actor playing the hero's younger brother has been kept under wraps, but now it has been revealed that Atomu Mizuishi is playing Alphonse.

As Anime News Network reports, Mizuhi provides the voice and motions of the character. Although Alphonse is CGI, Mizuhi used motion capture to bring life to the younger Eldric brother. According to director Fumihiko Sori, Mizuhi and Yamada had great chemistry on set. Mizuhi landed the role after beating 100 other hopeful actors in audtions.

According to Sori, Rie Kugimiya, the original voice actress of Alphonse, praised Mizuhi's vocal talent and told Sori that they cast the perfect person to play the character. The creator of Fullmetal Alchemist Hiromu Arakawa also said that she's happy with the live-action film's portrayal of Edward and Alphonse. However, the anime franchise's director criticized the film for having an all-Japanese cast.

The live-action Fullmetal Alchemist film is set to debut at the Tokyo International Film Festival on October 25 before it premieres in Japan on December 1.
