It's safe to say that Frank Miller's 300 was a huge success, not only winning a ton of comic book awards but also getting an acclaimed film adaptation from director Zack Snyder. This is why fans of the comic will be happy to know that it's follow up, Xerxes: The Fall of House Darius and the Rise of Alexander finally has a release date.

Announced years ago, fans have been waiting for the Xerxes-centric follow up to Miller's 300 series. Oddly enough, the subpar sequel 300: Rise of an Army was said to have some of its material coming from this comic, even though it didn't come out at the time. Now that Dark Horse Comics has confirmed that it will be out on April 4, fans can finally compare the lackluster film to the comic, which will hopefully be good.

Here's what Frank Miller had to say about the series:

"300 was an interlude in the great story of the Persian Wars. The battle of 300 represented one episode in a much greater series of wars. This series tells the story of the first great clash of civilizations, the first bloody contest between east and west. The odds vastly favor the Persian forces, but the Greeks have Alexander, the greatest military commander of all time."

Xerxes will be a five-issue series, with each installment costing US$4.99 and having 30 pages of story. Dark Horse is also hyping up each issue, which will have a wrap-around cover in a deluxe collector format. Miller will draw and write each installment, while colors will be provided by his Dark Knight III: Master Race collaborator Alex Sinclair.

The first issue comes out on April 4.
