Former Venom Topher Grace Has High Hopes for Tom Hardy's Version

While fans have mixed thoughts about October's Venom movie, the trailers have shown a pretty faithful version of the anti-hero we've seen in the comic books. Sure, he no longer has the white spider emblem on his chest, but his hulking physique and impressive CGI have impressed. At the least, it already looks better than the version of Venom we've seen in Spider-Man 3.

It turns out that former Venom Topher Grace agrees with fans. During an interview with Inverse about his upcoming role in BlacKkKlansman, Grace was asked about his thoughts on Tom Hardy's version of the character. Turns out Grace isn't bitter at all and thinks that Hardy's Venom is the one fans want to see in cinemas, including Grace himself.

"To me — I truly mean this — I think Tom is the guy to play that role. I'm thrilled to watch it as a fan. I really mean that. I think he's just the best dude."

Mostly known for That 70's Show, Grace played Eddie Brock and Venom in Spider-Man 3 yet failed to impress audiences. It wasn't all his fault since the film's writing wasn't particularly strong and the CGI made his version of Venom really skinny. Plus, he was one of the three villains that the film tried to incorporate, which made for a messy experience overall.

The most recent trailer for Venom was both really impressive and a bit cringe-worthy, especially with some of the lines said by the symbiote-possessed anti-hero. Still, the CGI was impressive, and it seems like the filmmakers know how the character will work, even without Spider-Man.

Venom comes out on October 5.
