Former Nightwing Writer Has Interesting Ideas For The Movie

The Nightwing movie has plenty of fans hyped for it, mostly due to the character's history in the comics. Dick Grayson is a fan favorite in the comics, after all, so seeing him get his own movie is nice, even if the previous DCEU films haven't built it up well. Revival writer Tim Seeley wrote the first 30 plus issues of Nightwing for DC Rebirth - not including his work on Grayson for the DC You era - and he has some interesting ideas for the upcoming film.

During an interview with Comic Book, Seeley said he would base the film on the first six issues of his Rebirth run. Here, Dick had to face off against a new villain called Raptor, who really wanted to be the character's new mentor and unlock his untapped potential. Considering how hard Dick worked to get out of Bruce's shadow and become his own hero, it's easy to see where the conflict comes from.

Here is Seeley's full statement:

"I would do a very similar thing to what we did in the first six issues of Nightwing — the Raptor story. If the story is going to have to be about a guy who was trained by Batman going off to fight on his own, then having him fight a guy who wants to be his new mentor and changes, I think that's the perfect story for it. I think the first act is, he's dealing with a villain — it could be the Court of Owls or something but it could be anything else. The threat is a threat that affects Batman and the family because you want to have some relationship with that, then he gets corrupted, and has to fight Raptor. I think that's your three-act movie."

Seeley also joked about getting royalties for making new character Raptor, though he also mentioned that the character could be replaced by Deathstroke if Warner Bros wanted to go that route. Of course, Deathstroke is slated to appear in The Batman, so he might not be appearing in any other DCEU films anytime soon.

Nightwing will start shooting in 2018 and will be directed by Chris McKay.
