Flashpoint: Ezra Miller Says DCEU Will Be Torn Asunder

It's only been a few years, but it looks like the DCEU is going to go through a major change with the upcoming Flashpoint film. The original comic series rebooted the post-Crisis DC universe and ushered in the New 52, though it's currently going through a rebirth. Turns out the film will be doing the same thing to the DCEU, as Ezra Miller promises that it will be ‘torn asunder.'

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actor portraying The Flash confirmed that Flashpoint will be a turning point for the cinematic universe. Miller compares Flashpoint to Crisis, the first time DC rebooted their universe and seemingly promises that things won't be the same.

"What fans understand when they hear Flashpoint, would be almost like hearing a word like ‘Crisis.' We start to understand that our precious DC universe will inevitably be torn asunder to an endless, headache-inducing fabric ofmultiversality. The DC Hyper-Extended Multiverse, as I plan to call it. Quote me!"

While we've seen the story adapted as an animated film and a short arc for CW's The Flash, DCEU head Geoff Johns promises that this movie will break new ground. "There's elements in it that we're going to be playing into that we couldn't do anywhere else," Johns explains. "The scale of it, the Batman story of it all." Johns doesn't specify which Batman, so we could be getting the Thomas Wayne version in the film, which will hopefully be played by Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

It will be interesting to see how much Flashpoint changes the DCEU. The only time we've seen a film alter it's universe's timeline was in X-Men: Days of Future Past, which essentially erased X-Men: The Last Stand from existence.

Now that changes are being discussed, fans have to wonder if Warner Bros. will use the altered timeline as an excuse to recast Bruce Wayne/Batman. Ben Affleck has been very vocal about a chance to leave the role, so this could be the graceful and cool way he wanted. Matt Reeves sure wouldn't mind.

Flashpoint currently has no release date. Anyone interested in the storyline can pick up the straight-to-home-release animated film Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox, which is pretty damn good. There's also the original comic story, which is available in graphic novel form.
