Steve Trevor may have died by the end of Wonder Woman, but for some reason, he’s going to find himself in the 80s come the sequel, Wonder Woman 1984.

Director Patty Jenkins shares us our first image of Chris Pine in the film. Check it out:

With Steve not having aged a year in the image, I’m hoping that Jenkins has a pretty good reason for bringing him back. Is he a descendant of the original Steve Trevor? Is he a ghost that haunting Diana in updated 80s clothing? Did the healing waters in Themyscira render him somewhat immortal? Did he somehow manage to survive the explosion and was brainwashed by Russians?

That’s what happened to Bucky in Winter Soldier! Stop copying Captain America movies, Wonder Woman!

With Diana’s line of ‘Thanks for bringing him back to me’ at the end of the first Wonder Woman, it could be safe to say that this Steve Trevor won’t be staying with us for long. I just hope that Patty Jenkins finds a good excuse for bringing him back. I thought it was pretty amazing that he actually sacrificed himself in the first movie. We don’t need that undermined by resurrecting him for no reason.

Catch Wonder Woman 1984 in theaters Nov. 1, 2019.
