First Ever Live-Action Pokemon Film, Pikachu Detective, is Coming

Legendary Pictures has officially acquired the film rights to Pokemon. Back in April, we reported that the Pokemon live-action film rights was at the center of a bidding war between studios, and Legendary Pictures reportedly emerged as the victor. It turns out the studio indeed won the rights, and now, with the Pokemon Go hype taking over the world by storm, this is what the studio wants to develop right away.

As Deadline reports, the first film in the franchise will be a live-action film centered around Detective Pikachu, who is a character introduced in the Nintendo video game Great Detective Pikachu. Here's the description of the story:

The game follows a peculiar talking Pikachu who, despite not being as powerful and nimble as other Pikachu of his kind, is rather intelligent and claims to be a great detective. One day, Pikachu encounters a boy named Tim Goodman, who is able to understand what he is saying. Thus, the two begin working together to solve various mysteries revolving around Pokémon in the city.

That sounds like an exciting mystery story that will excite fans of the phenomenal franchise. Legendary Pictures is planning to begin production on the film next year, with Universal Pictures distributing it. No other details have been released yet, but with the franchise's popularity going viral, this is probably going to be a huge hit at the box office.
