First Batman: Gotham By Gaslight Trailer Released

After a sneak peek and a teaser trailer, Warner Bros. Animation has released the first trailer of Batman: Gotham by Gaslight via IGN. The film is based on the acclaimed Elseworlds tale from writer Bryan Augustyn and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, which has the Dark Knight try and stop the infamous Jack the Ripper. It seems like the film will be a faithful adaptation, with the trailer having plenty of murder and action.

While the animation of the film doesn't evoke the visual style of Mignola, we do get to see a few impressive fight scenes and set-pieces in the trailer. Like The Killing Joke, the film will be rated R for all of the violence depicted, which is fitting since Jack the Ripper is involved. Here is hoping we don't get a half-assed prologue with a cookie-cutter villain that has a stupid name.

One notable thing about the straight-to-home-release film is the inclusion of Bruce Greenwood as Batman. The actor has lent his voice to the character before in Young Justice and Batman: Under The Red Hood, which got plenty of praise. Some would argue that he's up there with Kevin Conroy in terms of Batman voices and they aren't wrong.

Batman: Gotham by Gaslight will be available on Blu-Ray and Digital HD sometime in 2018. DC also released a trade paperback, which has the original one-shot and the sequel Master of the Future.
