Finding Dory has officially taken the spot of this years biggest US movie from Captain America: Civil War, Entertainment Weekly reports. The movie has made $423 million domestically since opening in June. In comparison, Captain America: Civil War has made $406.2 million since its May opening.
Only 24 movies in history have earned $400 million domestically and now Finding Dory can count itself as one of them. The film has also made $643 million worldwide and is sure to make more when it debuts in places like the UK, Italy, Germany, Japan and Mexico. Finding Dory is also now the second-highest earning animated movie in US History. It is surpassed only by Shrek 2 which earned $441.2 million, but it still has time to catch up. Finding Dory also set records for being the animated movie with the highest grossing premiere.
This has been a good year for Disney as the company has already earned $5 billion from all their movies. Last year, Disney didn't reach $5 billion until the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens in late December. In addition to Finding Dory, Captain America: Civil War, Zootopia and The Jungle Book have bought in big bucks for the company this year.
