Final Fantasy XV's December Update Adds Character Swapping

Final Fantasy XV is getting a huge update next month. Aside from the usual bug fixes and support for the Episode Ignis DLC, Square Enix revealed that the update will come with a character swapping mechanic. This will let players use Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto in the main campaign, so those that haven't paid for the season pass can finally use someone other than Noctis.

Prior to the update announcement in the Active Time Report broadcast, Gladiolus was only playable in the alternative Chapter 13 and the Episode Gladiolus DLC. As for Prompto, he was only playable in his DLC Episode as well. Ignis' DLC Episode hasn't come out yet, so it looks like players will be able to use him in the update without having to pay for the additional content.

Some fans would argue that the character swapping should have been in the base game, but at least it's free. It seems like Square Enix is owning up to the fact that the game was incomplete when it was released last year, hence the amount of free DLC, along with the paid DLC. Here is hoping that we get all of the DLC soon so that the game can finally feel complete.

Final Fantasy XV is available now on PS4 and Xbox One, with the PC version coming out next year. The character swapping update will be available next month.
