Final Fantasy VII Remake Director Says It Was Announced Too Early

Everybody was excited when Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy VII Remake a number of years ago, after years of fans begging for the game. This is due to that time Square Enix made a short Final Fantasy VII video to show what the PS3 was capable of, despite never releasing a game related to it afterward.

However, recent reports and interviews have essentially confirmed that the game would not be finished anytime soon, with one rumor even claiming that it was scheduled for 2023, though that was later debunked. Tetsuya Nomura, the game's director, now wishes that they hadn't revealed it back then.

During an interview with Multiplayer.it (via ScreenRant), Nomura said that the company faced a lot of pressure from fans who wanted the game and now see why other companies wait as long as needed before making an announcement. Look how long it took Bethesda to announce The Elder Scrolls VI, which doesn't even have a release date and could be coming to next-gen consoles.

"Announcing your game to the public is always a difficult decision to make. I understand why some companies wait as long as possible and I think it's a good thing for them. But in our case we receive pressure from the fans even when we do not announce anything."

Nomura's not lying since fans have been begging for this remake and the company had to give in sooner or later. The fact that it didn't appear in this year's E3 enraged many fans, though it didn't cause as much outrage as the lack of Avengers: Project news. On the bright side, we got plenty of Kingdom Hearts 3 footage. Yay?

What we know about the Final Fantasy VII Remake is that it will have real-time combat, realistic graphics, and could end up being told through multiple games. Also that there will be a PS4 version. No release date has been announced.
