Ewan McGregor Thinks The Obi-Wan Spinoff Won’t Release Till After 2020

Rumors of an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film started circulating online for quite some time. After Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy revealed earlier this week that she was hoping Disney would announce the next Star Wars spin-off movie this summer, fans have begun hoping that the title would be given to Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Though the acclaimed Scottish actor admits that Lucasfilm hasn't even made him any offers for the film yet, he would really love to return to the big screen as Anakin Skywalker's master.

Speaking in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, McGregor reveals:

"There's no official offer, and I haven't met them about it or anything," McGregor admits. "But I've always said that I'd be happy to do it if they wanted to do it. It would be a good segue between the last episode of the prequels and the new episodes. I think they've got films to make until the 2020s, so I don't think it's going to happen soon if it happens at all."

Though the actor's enthusiasm to reprise the role sounds very encouraging, the actor's opinion on the Obi-Wan spinoff not making it till after 2020 can douse fans hopes of getting an Obi-Wan Kenobi announcement this summer. Obi-Wan is a well-liked character in the Star Wars franchise and when rumors of the Jedi getting a standalone film began sprouting back in March, the Star Wars fan community became more than excited.

Then again, McGregor's comments could be a red herring. We'll just have to wait for that Star Wars spinoff announcement this summer.

Atleast for now we know that Han Solo which is currently in production is scheduled for release on May 25, 2018.
