Ewan McGregor Rumored to Reprise Obi-Wan Kenobi Role in Star Wars: Episode VIII

Star Wars prequel alum Ewan McGregor had a surprise cameo as the voice of Obi-Wan in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. When Rey experience a Force-vision, we hear the line "Rey? These are your first steps", comes from Obi-Wan Kenobi, and the line was voiced by both actors who played the role on the big screen. They also magically brought Sir Alec Guiness' voice in the mix with McGregor's.

Now, a new rumor is saying that McGregor might reprise his role as the Force-ghost of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the sequel to The Force Awakens, currently called Star Wars: Episode VIII.

The unsourced rumor, reported by Kristian Harloff of Schmoes Know and Collider, tweeted, "Grain of salt: hearing that Ewan Mcgregor in talks to play Obi Force ghost in Episode 8."

McGregor's role was one of the highlights of George Lucas' Star Wars prequels, and it would make sense to bring him back as a Force-ghost in Episode VIII. You can watch McGregor talk about his role on Jimmy Kimmel Live! here.

Star Wars: Episode VIII will be released in theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
