Even Daenerys' Outfits Were Meant To Reflect Her “Chemistry” With Jon

The growing chemistry between Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke)was pretty clear throughout the seventh season of Game of Thrones. Not only did the Bastard King of the North and the Dragon Queen give each other longing glances in various episodes of this year's season, the writers of the series had supporting characters confirming their attraction by dropping hints at each other.

One of the more surprising proofs of their romance however was the design of Daenerys outfits. Writing to Huffington Post, Game of Thrones costume designer Michele Clapton revealed that the costumes tailored for the Dragon Queen not only reflected her hopes for Westeros, but also her budding relationship with the King of the North.

"This season seemed to be the right time for Daenerys to start to embrace the shape and colours of her house," Clapton told the publication through email. "She is in touching distance of her desired place ... so I liked this flowering, this visual expression of her growing confidence that she could maybe take the throne."

Clapton also wanted to reflect the chemistry between Dany and Jon, so she added a few details to the queen's costume design. Not only did she add a few furs to Dany's outfit, but she also designed the Queen's white fur coat from "Beyond the Wall" as a symbol of her connection to the people of the North.

"I took reference from the Wildlings' attire, particularly the coat that is worn by Jon Snow which was in turn influenced by Mance Rayder," she explained. "I wanted to define Dany's shape by cutting into and shaping the fur. Also, I was keen to create a warrior look, a thing of beauty."

Costumes play an important role in any series, and it's interesting to hear that the costume designer tried to reflect Dany's outfits with the various experiences she's going through. We wonder what new furs the Dragon Queen will be wearing now that she's finally given in to her feelings for Jon.

Game of Thrones season 8 premieres sometime 2018 or 2019.
